Zwigato Movie Review

People who deliver food have become an essential part of our lives. While we rate and tip them, how much do we know about what happens behind the scenes while we wait for our food? Manas Mahto, starring Kapil Sharma, provides an insight into that through the work of director and co-writer Nandita Das. But on the other hand that is a way to discuss the hardships a specific class of society (work class) faces because of insufficient business open doors.
The story follows Pratima (Shahana Goswami), Manas's wife, as she seeks employment to help the family financially despite his disapproval. We soon discover aspects like app companies offering drivers "incentives," which lead them down the rabbit hole of making as many deliveries as possible every day and how they are exploited on multiple levels. Correcting a placard slogan that reads, "Woh mazdoor hai, is liye majboor hai," Manas laments, "Woh majboor hai, is liye mazdoor hai" (He's a laborer because he's helpless).
The film also delicately addresses class and gender discrimination, which are deeply ingrained in our society. The film is moving to watch because it is filled with the tension of monotony and despair. Zwigato includes too much, despite the fact that one is aware of the connections between politics, the social system, and the economy. The narrative's flow is hampered by the fact that it sometimes appears to be a series of events woven together. While the first half builds the world at its own pace, the second part moves slowly, sometimes even sluggishly. Several sequences, including a protest by an activist named Govindraj (Swanand Kirkire), a man of a different faith being targeted, and so on, appear marginally force-fitted.
Cinematographer Ranjan Palit masterfully depicts the commoner's world through the dingy byways of Bhubaneshwar, where the story is set, as Nandita and co-writer Samir Patil skillfully present a relatable story. The film's realism is enhanced by omitting Odisha's exotic beauty and majestic structures. The stop-movement liveliness when the credits roll as Yeh Raat plays merits a unique notice.
One is familiar with Shahana's talent as a performer, and once more, she pulls off a fine act, from her mannerisms and expressions to the local Jharkhand accent and body language. In this one, however, Kapil is a revelation. He does his part as a loving husband who has been trained to be a snarky father, a frustrated worker, and a desperate man right on target. You won't even get a glimpse of the outrageous comedian he usually is once.
Manas's situation is shown to be very frustrating, but the ending is too simple, too abrupt, and doesn't seem to show that life goes on for people like him.
Overall, the film moves at a sluggish pace, which may make you feel uneasy. However, due to its excellent performances and intent, it is well worth watching. Above all else, the movie successfully leaves you with empathy for those who perform odd or menial tasks to simplify our lives. Take a look at it.
